We believe that people make a nursery special and therefore we pride ourselves on recruiting happy and positive child carers and then making sure our environment is a happy one so that that they stay with us!

We are very proud to have a highly qualified professional and experienced team of child carers, and are committed to treating them well and to on-going training. Our aim is to have every member of our team:

  • Childcare qualified or in training
  • First aid qualified
  • Trained in basic food hygiene
  • Trained in child protection
  • All staff undergo regular training and are offered professional development courses in all areas of the curriculum, care for babies and special needs.

Although we accept students on work experience placements they are fully supervised and are not included in the staff to child ratio.

We believe that our strength is our people. Between us, the Senior Management Team have loads of experience of managing people. Josy & Ian have both managed within large multinational businesses and both Jenny and Dee have degrees in Early Years and have managed Nurseries and Kids Clubs for many years.

What all four of us have in common is a passion for people, little and large, and for delivering the best possible experience for all people who come into our Nurseries and Funclubs. This passion drives everything that we do. We recruit the nicest people, we treat them well and in return they are happy and provide a warm and caring environment for the children and a happy and welcoming approach for parents and carers.  We strive to constantly improve and challenge ourselves and our wider teams to keep learning and to have fun in our work. We are very proud of our reputation and work hard to maintain the highest of standards at all times.

Meet some of our lovely Staff Team


CarolThis is Carol, affectionately known by some staff, children and parents as ‘Nana Carol’. Carol is definitely your ‘Nana’ away from home and loves cuddles and playtime with the children. Carol is a long-serving member of our team at PlayAway and has been with us for almost 13 years. Carol has a level 3 Diploma in Pre-School Practice.


HayleyHayley is based in our tweenie rooms at Woodlands Day Nursery but has also worked at Oatlands & Rossett Acre Funclubs and at Little Dragons Day Nursery.  Hayley is warm, calm and sincere and can often be found in the book area entertaining the children with stories. She likes to work on building children’s self-esteem and confidence. Hayley has a Degree in Childhood Studies.

Emma D

Emma 2Emma is very creative and you can see her handiwork together with the children’s in the lovely displays in the Pre-School rooms at PlayAway Day Nursery.   With an NVQ level 3 in Childcare, Emma’s good understanding of child development mixed with her sunshiny personality  gets the most out of the children in her care.


PaigePaige understands the need for children to express themselves and to be creative through messy play. She is very patient and allows as much time as needed for children to get the most out of messy activities.  Paige is the Deputy Manager at Oatlands Funclub but also covers lunches at PlayAway Day Nursery.  She has an NVQ level 3 in Childcare and Education.


SuzanneSuzanne has over 20 years experience of working with babies since gaining her NNEB in 1995.  She loves nurturing them, helping to develop their interests and forming strong bonds with children and families.  She has cared for Woodlands babies for over 5 years and says she loves the fun friendly and homely atmosphere from the minute you walk in the door.


SarahSarah has been a professional chef since 1997, with NVQ levels 2 and 3 in kitchen and larder.  She has worked in many roles including hotels, restaurants and care homes, and loves working in the ever-changing Woodlands nursery environment, where she is always  looking for new ways to engage the children in enjoying and understanding their food.  She says she loves working in a fabulous nursery that allows her to do a job she loves and look after her own children too!


FayFay has worked with children since 1995, and has been at Woodlands since 2002!!  She is currently Acting Manager whilst Kelly is on maternity leave and holds an NNEB Diploma in childcare and is working towards her Level 3 in management.  Fay has spent time in all nursery sections, and was pre-school team leader for many years before becoming Deputy Manager.   She is also our co-ordinator for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.  Fay says: “At Woodlands we are like one big happy family, all having a passion for caring for and teaching children”.


RachelRachel started at Woodlands as an apprentice and rapidly gained her level 3 qualification whilst working with us.  She has experience in all 3 rooms but has mostly worked with our pre-school children in the annexe.  Rachel says:” I love working at Woodlands as there aren’t many jobs where you spend each day smiling!  I’m a bit of a chatterbox and so pre-school suits me well!”

Sue C

SueSue has worked part time at Woodlands since 2001. She joined nursery after a break to raise her own family and after working as a neonatal intensive care nurse. In her spare time she volunteers for St John Ambulance as an advanced first aider, trainer & assessor.  Sue loves to help the staff keep up to date with first aid matters, and in particular loves being outside with the children and growing things and cooking with them.  She has attended many workshops; signing, positive behaviour management, singing, special needs and recently helping boys attain their full potential.
